The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
