The President Calls Relatives of Attacked National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The president said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Support
Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event caused the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt granting entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit the family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
