Nearly 55,000 families have reportedly been harmed by the rains, with their possessions and temporary homes destroyed.

Persistent storms over the last seven days have compounded the extremely difficult situation of the hundreds of thousands of displaced residents in the territory, according to aid agencies.

"Awful" Conditions Brings Severe Threats

A spokesman detailed the weather overnight as "horrendous", with downpours so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.

"The recent weather was really terrible for the residents. The storms were so powerful... And the winds were so strong," said the official.

Officials express grave worry that minors living in makeshift shelters in damp clothing will fall victim to hypothermia and other sicknesses.

Fatalities and Significant Damage

Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has died from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have died in building collapses triggered by the harsh conditions.

Other reports indicate a increased death toll. Officials reported that several residential buildings had totally fallen and many others had collapsed partially.

  • Almost 55,000 families harmed by rains.
  • More than 40 designated safe spaces severely flooded.
  • Countless residents compelled to move once more.

Aid Operations Considered Not Enough

Agencies have increased shipments of shelter, blankets and clothing following the ceasefire started, but they have said there is still not enough aid reaching those in need.

"Agencies are working relentlessly to bring in that assistance and to allocate it, but the magnitude of the needs is so vast that we still have many thousands of people and children who are truly enduring hardship each evening," cautioned one representative.

Future Concerns and Ceasefire Terms

The next stage of the agreement includes plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the withdrawal of troops, and other conditions.

Humanitarian organizations have stressed the need for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to respond to pressing and ongoing needs."

The conflict was initiated by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Later military operations have caused a high number of fatalities in the area, according to health ministry reports.
