A three-year-old female lion saved from war-torn the war zone has received critical dental surgery to extract a badly decayed canine tooth caused by an abscess.
The lioness arrived at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, England on March 14 following a campaign by managing director the sanctuary's leader, who raised £500,000 to support her and four other rescued lions.

The surgery was performed on last week by veterinary dentist an experienced animal dentist, who has cared for hundreds of large felines.
"Upon inspecting the lioness's oral cavity, I could see right away the damaged fang was severely infected," said Mr Kertesz.
He thought the infection was due to a trauma experienced over twelve months back, leading to germs creating harmful substances within the fang.
"My philosophy is non-human oral health issues need to be treated in the safest, the most conservative and most secure manner," he explained.
The expert explained that as Lira no longer required to hunt for food, extraction was the most "logical and humane option."

The sanctuary said the removed fang was 3.14 inches in length, with the dentist having to remove a pocket of pus from beneath the tooth and close the large wound with multiple absorbable stitches.
He also performed a root canal treatment on the opposing upper canine tooth, which was discovered to have a similar issue.
Briony Smith, curator at The Big Cat Sanctuary, said the procedure was a "total triumph."
She said the staff had observed "a small lump on Lira's jawline" but it had been difficult to assess "the extent of the problem."
"The lioness will be a little uncomfortable to begin with, but now that the infectious materials are out of her body, she will begin improving over the coming days," added Ms Smith.
This vital operation represents a major milestone in Lira's recovery after her rescue from Ukraine.
