Players anticipating the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait the full month. A free-to-play demo version is set to become available on the seventh of January, granting a generous look into the game's initial chapters. Notably, any progress earned within this demo is eligible to be transferred directly into the main game upon its February launch.

Beyond Just a Simple Re-release: A Thorough Overhaul

This title constitutes a comprehensive re-envisioning of the iconic 2000 role-playing game, first released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct step away from other series re-releases, such as the previously released HD-2D iterations, this version adopts a unique 3D visual presentation. Environments are designed to look like detailed model sets, with protagonists featuring a appealing toy-like look.

"Even with the 3DS version, the story was still notoriously lengthy. Consequently, the team reached a conclusion that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this adventure for today's audiences."

Key Mechanical Changes and Modernizations

Square Enix have introduced a host of modernizations to update the original gameplay loop. This encompasses:

Streamlined Field Battles: Inspired by contemporary RPGs, weaker monsters can now be dispatched directly on the overworld map without entering a full traditional battle screen.
Variable Combat Speed: Gamers can speed up combat animations to rapidly get past easier encounters.
