The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the anticipated entry for a competition taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
City’s stadium has not staged an Three Lions match since eight years ago, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to welcome the Three Lions for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The English side are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The tournament was launched at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host football associations were heckled as they approached the location by around fifty activists, who urged Israel’s national side to be removed from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were displayed with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
The opening game of the European Championship will be staged at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will involve Wales if they make it.
The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5:00 PM.
It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will cater to households and help engage a wider spectrum of audiences.
The Irish team are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would follow suit at Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualification process; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.
The Birmingham venue and The North London arena complete the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at each country’s national stadium.
The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Over 3 million tickets, a record for a Euro tournament, are expected to be made available to supporters.
