Dominant Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She garnered nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
