Grief-stricken relatives gathered outside the four-storey factory in Mirpur, Dhaka on that day in looking for their dear ones still not found.

The fire, which erupted at the factory around noon, was extinguished after three hours. But an nearby chemical warehouse remained ablaze, officials confirmed.

As late as 21:00 local time (15:00 GMT) on Tuesday, the fire at the chemical warehouse had not been completely doused, media reports indicated.

Fire service officials have not established which of the two buildings caught fire first.

Based on bystanders, the chemical warehouse housed industrial bleaches, plastic and hydrogen peroxide, all of which can accelerate fires. Synthetic materials also produces poisonous gases when ignited.

Law enforcement and armed forces are still trying to locate the owners of the factory and the warehouse, emergency services head the department director informed the media.

An inquiry on whether the warehouse was operating legally is also in progress, he noted.

Crying family members stood outside the burned buildings, many of them clutching photographs of their lost relatives.

Included in the crowd is a man seeking urgently for his daughter, his loved one.

"When I heard about the fire, I rushed here. But I still have been unable to find her... I just want my daughter back," he stated to reporters.

The tragic incident has yet again emphasized the hazardous conditions affecting Bangladesh's clothing sector, which provides jobs for countless of workers and is a major provider of economic income for the country.
