Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
