Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, local government spokespeople confirmed on Wednesday evening. The fighter was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on Monday, a horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of two of his valued colleagues.
The sports star had been under observation while healing from his light wounds, representatives confirmed on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on social media that Joshua was declared medically stable to continue his recovery at home.
“Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two friends who passed away as they were being readied to be sent home,” the commissioner stated.
The two men who died were identified as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the athlete was heartbroken and deeply emotional over the loss of his two dear friends.”
His release from the hospital arrives after the boxing community shared its support for the fighter in the following the devastating accident.
